“Economics”

Adam

I was an “economics” major in college, along with anthropology. Not that I’ve asked around, but I am aware of, potentially, at least ONE other person with this rather ODD combination of ACADEMIC “interests.” ODD, I’m saying, because whereas “economics,” at least in our globally-“Westernized” conception, is identified with Adam Smith, capitalism, free markets, and the like, “anthropology” historically concerns primarily non-Western cultures and societies…

However, to what extent is this true? The “fathers” of anthropology were a bunch of old white men who sat in arm chairs, smoking pipes, thinking about HOW WE ALL GOT INTO THIS MESS and HOW WE CAN GET OUT… (WELP, they weren’t the FIRST to think that, but since THEY WERE old white men, sitting in arm chairs, smoking pipes, they thought they were…) But, anyway, yeah, I am not kidding. They are literally called “arm chair anthropologists” (OOPS! Was having trouble with that link… It “MAY” just actually lead to arm chairs sold by Anthropologie, but, ultimately, those are more “useful,” anyway…) and, yes, they were white men sitting around thinking, thinking, thinking… And we ALL know what comes of that

Anyhoo, yeah, this guy was the first…

So “anthropology” became a science… (Well, a social “science“…).

But here’s the kicker… Since they were sitting around thinking about a bunch of people OTHER than THEMSELVES, they ACTUALLY started to LEARN something…

So, then, yeah, like 150, 200 years later, or “Something” like that, this dumb as rocks numb-nuts comes around and starts writing about IT. Know what I’m saying?

So, back to the point…

Fuck it, let’s listen to some Dylan
